Membership

The Group's aims are to:

  • arrange winter talks and summer activities about churches and chapels, grand country houses, medieval guildhalls, schools and houses built in timber, flint, brick, and clay lump;
  • publish spring and summer newsletters for members;
  • conduct research on houses and other buildings;
  • offer opportunities for members to survey and study buildings;
  • survey houses at their owners’ request and maintain a data base of properties surveyed;
  • collect and record information about Norfolk's historic buildings and share this information through talks, group visits, training exercises, workshops and publications.

Activities

The group is undertaking practical recording, supported by documentary research, of a wide range of historic buildings, from parish churches to vernacular houses. If you do not wish to join but would like your house researched, please contact Ian Hinton: ian.hinton222@btinternet.com or Lynne Hodge: lynne@walknorfolk.co.uk.

Winter
Between October and March each year the Group hosts a programme of lectures by members and other specialists.

Summer
Members are able to engage with a series of day schools focusing on particular buildings, themes or practical techniques.
There will also be group visits to buildings or sites not usually open to the public, normally led by an expert.

Training

For members wishing to develop practical skills, such as building recording or documentary research the Group runs occasional courses and less formal practical training in building recording.
